Understanding and Addressing a New Mattress Smell

When you unwrap your new mattress, you might notice a distinctive smell. This is a common occurrence with new mattresses (big or small) and is often referred to as "off-gassing." Rest assured, this smell is neither harmful nor toxic and will dissipate over time. At our company, we prioritise the health and safety of our customers, ensuring that nothing used in the production of our mattresses poses any harm.

Why Does the New Mattress Smell?

The smell you're noticing is simply a result of the materials used in the mattress manufacturing process. Our mattresses are crafted with high-quality materials that are fresh out of production. Because we deliver our products directly from the production line to your home, without months of storage in a warehouse, these materials may emit a temporary odour when first unpacked.

The Safety of Our Mattresses

We understand that you might have concerns about the smell, but let us assure you: the odour is completely normal and expected. Each and every material used in our mattresses is thoroughly tested to ensure they are safe and non-toxic. There is absolutely nothing in our mattresses that is harmful. The scent you notice is simply a byproduct of the production process, which diminishes significantly once the mattress is aired out. Importantly, this odour does not mean that the mattress is defective, faulty or that harmful chemicals have been used.

How to Air Out Your Mattress

To help the smell dissipate more quickly, we recommend a few simple steps:

  1. Unbox in a Well-Ventilated Area: If possible, unpack your mattress in a room with good ventilation. Open windows and doors to allow fresh air to circulate. Sunshine is a great natural deodoriser.

  2. Remove Packaging Immediately: Once your mattress is in place, remove all plastic wrapping and other packaging materials. This allows the mattress to start airing out right away.

  3. Elevate the Mattress: Place the mattress on a bed frame or a stand to ensure airflow around all sides of the mattress.

  4. Vacuum the Mattress: Lightly vacuuming the mattress surface can help to eliminate some of the odour particles.

  5. Time and Patience: Allow the mattress to air out for a few days. Most of the smell will dissipate within a few days, but it may take up to a week for the scent to completely disappear.

Your comfort and peace of mind are our top priorities. We are proud to deliver mattresses that are not only of the highest quality but also safe and free from harmful substances. The fresh smell is a sign that your tiny one's new mattress is brand new, made just for you, and hasn’t been sitting in a warehouse for months on end.

Experiencing a noticeable smell when you first open your new mattress packaging is perfectly normal. This odour is harmless and temporary, resulting from the fresh materials used in our manufacturing process. By following the steps to air out your mattress, you can speed up the process and it can be enjoyed even sooner. Rest easy knowing that your mattress is safe, high-quality, and made to provide the best possible sleep experience. This smell does not indicate that the mattress is defective or that harmful chemicals have been used.
